History of Our Farm
![]()
Our family farm located in a small town know as Guilford has a history of over 200 years. The Gaines farm was established in 1782 by David Gaines and his son Joseph. Along the journey the farm has maintained the fields and wooded forests through the use of the land. Diversification and change must continue in order to maintain our farm. An old time saying~ do what you have to do to keep on keeping on. What is now known at 6343 Coolidge Highway was then known as road 56. Joseph's son continued the farm as did one of his nine children whose name was Joel who was born in 1829. A quote in the first Guilford history book says, "Joel was a most industrious and successful farmer and one of the heaviest producers of maple products in Guilford and was universally honored for his kindly disposition and sterling integrity." Joel's son, Edward , continued the farm until he passed away in 1926. His son Sidney continued the family farm along with his son Robert Sr. who passed away in 2007. Robert Jr. his wife Jacqueline and their son Kyle continue the farming tradition.
